It is 2016! You will notice a different format in the devotionals beginning today. I have decided to begin a series of devotionals that will come from Paul’s letters. I am beginning with the one that I believe was written by Paul first and then proceed to the final letter while in a prison in Rome. Yes, that will be a rather long time. I may die before I reach that goal, but it will be fun going up that mountain. I am excited about this journey and I am glad to have you on this journey. I may stay in the same passage of Scripture for some days because I am focusing upon a specific theme. Do not expect my devotionals to be as long and maybe even different. Give me your input whether positive or negative. I am open to considering your thoughts. The GPS is on its own track of readings for the next three years. It is our intent to make the entire Bible reading a duplicate in 2019, but we shall see when we get near that place. So, here is my first NEW and DIFFERENT devotional for the NEW YEAR. Enjoy!!!

Galatians 1:1-3 – “Paul an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead—and all the brothers who are with me, to the churches of Galatia.” (ESV)

Subject:  Selected by God

Galatians was written by Paul about AD 49-50. It was written on Paul’s first missionary journey (I call this the 2nd one…you will see why later) of about three years. It was written to the churches of Galatia because it is a province and not a city. It was written before the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15). This is information that you need to know if you are to have an understanding of where it fits and even why he writes about some matters in this book.

Paul calls himself an apostle or a special messenger of God. He is first of all of believer in Jesus Christ and was called by Jesus Christ Himself on the road to Damascus (Acts 9). God opened Paul’s mind to understand that he was opposing the Lord Jesus by persecuting the believers at that time (about AD 31). Paul has been saved for nearly 20 years as he writes this first letter.

God called Paul to be a believer in Jesus Christ and He also called him to be an apostle at the time of his conversion. I believe that Paul is the first Christian in the Body of Christ (again, you will see why I think that later). Paul’s apostleship did not come from any person or group of people, but from God.

In Acts 9:15 it says, “But the Lord said to him (Paul), ‘God, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles, and kings and the children of Israel.” God is the One who chose or selected Paul to be HIS and also to be a special messenger of God.

God has chosen you if you are a believer of Jesus Christ. He has also chosen you to be of service to the Lord of lords. Are you fulfilling what God has called you to do? You may think that it is not really important, but God never calls us to anything that is not important in His plan for this world. You fulfill a very small part of the big picture and so do I. Let us be faithful in where and what God has called us to do!

Love you lots,

Pastor Les
